SDSU Program Prepares Students to Teach Worldwide

Imagine what it would be like to travel the world and have a job at the same time teaching English as a second language. Students are afforded this opportunity if they complete a TESL/TEFL certificate program through SDSU’s American Language Institute (ALI), a division of SDSU’s College of Extended Studies.

This certificate program teaches students to prepare to successfully live and teach English overseas by combining a solid teaching foundation with hands-on practical classroom experience. There are specialized sessions in language acquisition theory, teaching specific language skills, effective second language teaching methods, understanding the English language learner, classroom atmosphere and management, lesson preparation, and materials development.

The next daytime TESL/TEFL certificate program runs weekdays from January 9-February 3. The upcoming night program is Tuesdays and Thursdays, February 7-April 26.

More than 100 certificate graduates have been employed in 38 countries. This 130-hour program features:

  • Supervised classroom teaching with American Language Institute students
  • Dedicated, worldwide job placement assistance
  • All the tools needed to teach and live overseas
  • An expert teacher-mentor assigned to you
