SDSU’s College of Extended Studies will present a course on Energy Efficiency, Evaluation, and Design as part of its Professional Certificate in Green Energy Management Online program. The online course takes place Oct. 10-Dec. 11, with Oct. 17 being the last day to enroll.
This course presents the key concepts and methods of energy efficiency. It explores how energy is converted into useful services and the role of increased efficiency in providing those services with less energy.
The different forms of efficiency improvements and conservation are introduced, drawing upon examples in transportation, buildings, and industry. The practical implications of public policies, behavior, and economics are interspersed with technical and theoretical aspects. Key concepts include how to convert and design efficient solar energy designs.
“I believe that taking classes in the Green Energy Management certificate has helped me transition from the high-tech industry into the renewable energy field, which was my main aim,” said former student Kay Rathfelder.
SDSU’s College of Extended Studies currently offers Green-related online certificate programs in Green Building Construction, Green Energy Management, and Residential and Commercial Sustainable Practices. A new online certificate in Water Conservation and Landscape Sustainability will be added in the spring 2012 semester.
“This area is going to grow. Offering this type of certificate is going to be very important to our job market,” said National City Mayor Ron Morrison, chairman of the Sweetwater Water Authority and San Diego Regional Solid Waste Association, as well as a director on the board at the San Diego County Water Authority.
