Supervisor Jacob Endorses Dumanis for Mayor, Citing Support of Fire Victims

Nathan Fletcher wins favor among fiscal conservatives.

County Supervisor Dianne Jacob Thursday endorsed District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis' San Diego mayoral campaign, while an organization working to elect fiscally responsible Republicans threw its support behind one of her main rivals, Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher, R-San Diego.

Jacob said Dumanis' protection of 2007 wildfire victims from unlicensed scam artists and her quick response to a rise in pimping of young girls by gang members showed that she is the best candidate to tackle the city of San Diego's challenges.

"As district attorney, Bonnie's been an integral part of the county team for nine years and I've seen her usher in a new era of efficiency, creativity and improved morale to her department,'' Jacob said. "She does the right things for the right reasons, and she doesn't back down.''

Dumanis previously won the support of Jacob's colleague, Supervisor Ron Roberts, as well as Sheriff Bill Gore and current Mayor Jerry Sanders.

Fletcher's endorsement came from New Majority San Diego, a group of business leaders that also has chapters in Los Angeles, Orange and Santa Barbara counties.

"In Nathan, we found the candidate who rose above the rest,'' said New Majority board member Jonathan Bullen. "He has a proven record of success and has shown that he has a unique ability to bring people together to get the job done.''

The assemblyman has also received backing from the California Small Business Association and several area high tech industry leaders.

Dumanis and Fletcher will take on Councilman Carl DeMaio and Rep. Bob Filner, D-San Diego, among other candidates, in the June 5 primary election.
