Sarah Baughman is Senior Rodeo Queen

Megan Buckley of Ramona High School takes the Junior Rodeo Queen title.

Sarah Baughman, a 17 year old junior at El Capitan High School in Lakeside, was chosen as Ramona’s Senior Rodeo Queen in a pageant Saturday night at the Ramona Outdoor Community Center pavilion.

The new Junior Rodeo Queen is Megan Buckley, 16, who is a junior at Ramona High School.

The two young women will ride in the rodeo parade on Main Street on May 21, and they will lead off each of the three rodeo competitions May 20 to 22 in the Fred Grand Arena.

Sarah said she loves rodeo because of the “speed, excitement and lifestyle.” She also enjoys encouraging new rodeo fans because “it is so much fun and they don’t know what they are missing,” she said.

She plans to continue her education at Feather River College in Quincey to earn a horse breeder’s license and a degree in animal husbandry. Sarah plans to breed quarter horses. She also aspires to be part of the college’s rodeo team.

Megan plans to major in medicine. She spends her summers helping at camps for youngsters with special needs.

Sarah also won the horsemanship senior division and Alexis Awrey, 15, placed first in the junior division.
