Ramona and Poway Drug Busts Yield Marijuana Plants and Firearms; Arrests Made

A multiagency roundup of people violating the terms of their probation or parole ended in about 30 arrests Wednesday night in Ramona and Poway.

Three people in Ramona were among about 30 people arrested Wednesday night on allegations of violating their probation or parole for drug offenses.

In a multiagency effort called Tip the Scale, sheriff's deputies and parole officers arrived at the homes of people in Ramona and Poway who were on probation or parole to check whether the residents were under the influence of drugs or had drugs in their homes.

In Ramona, that led to the arrest of two men and a young woman at 942 D Street at approximately 7 p.m. Authorities said ninety-one potted marijuana plants were seized from a building on the property and the three people were taken into custody. A firearm and ammunition also were seized.

In Poway, one parole violation was that of a mother of an 18-month-old child. She was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance and the child was taken into protective custody by the county of San Diego Child Welfare Services’ Drug Endangered Children program.

Deputies made arrests for a variety of criminal violations, including parole and probation violations, felon in possession of firearms, felon in possession of ammunition, driving under the influence, possession of narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia, and being under the influence of a controlled substance.

Operation Tip the Scale is a program under the county of San Diego Methamphetamine Strike Force.

The Poway Sheriff's Station was a hub of activity Wednesday night. After people were arrested, they were taken to the parking lot at the station to be processed and receive information about treatment options before being sent to jail.
