Deputies Shoot, Kill Attacking Pit Bulldog off Brandiron Street

The dog was killed Sunday after it attacked deputies serving a warrant; Jared Smith, 24, is arrested.

Sheriff's deputies shot and killed a pit bulldog Sunday morning in the 15700 block of Brandiron Street after it attacked two deputies serving a warrant, according to authorities.

Sheriff’s Detective Lori-Ann Wells told Patch that deputies visited a home off Brandiron Street after receiving a call at 7:58 a.m. about a suspicious person.

When authorities reached the property, a pit bull attacked two deputies, prompting them both to shoot at the dog and ultimately kill it.

The Sheriff's Department said Jared Smith, 24, was arrested on probable cause for an outstanding felony warrant (assault with a deadly weapon), possession of a deadly weapon, spousal abuse and vandalism.

He was booked at San Diego County Central Jail.

According to the Sheriff's Department, Smith caused $200 worth of damage to a white vehicle.

The San Diego County Jail website says Smith is being held with no release on bail possible.

He is charged with multiple crimes, including burglary, forgery, reckless driving and the aforementioned crimes. He’ll appear on numerous charges Dec. 5, 7 and 10 in El Cajon Superior Court.

Wells said no deputies involved in the arrest were injured by the pit bull.
